- Happy New Year to you all from the VVA. As always, its that time again when the New Years Honours list comes out. And I know you will all join us at the VVA in congratulating Lt Col Simon Etherington for his award of an OBE; and Capt (Retd) Ray Hazan, President of St Dunstan’s, for service to Blind Ex-Service Men and Women. Ray receives an OBE (Ray was seriously injured and blinded by a parcel bomb whilst serving with the Poachers in Londonderry in 1973); and finally Capt (Retd) Bob Allen, Chairman of The Royal Tigers’ Association, awarded an MBE for service to Ex-Service Men and Women in Leicestershire and Rutland and to the community in Belton-in-Rutland.
